Somatic wisdom of handwashing and other cozy things

Ingredients for today’s Lab:

Lubna And Pebble by Wendy Meddour, illustrated by Daniel Egnéus, a kiddie pool, mats propped vertically, many cozy fabrics, pebbles, paint, small envelopes, tickets, a jar of words, stickers,

What just happened?!:

Eva was a little this morning so the amigues decided to surprise her by turning down the lights and pretending the entire room had fallen asleep. After thinking of ways to wake them up she settled on a favorite song from when she was little, Hoy no me puedo levantar. Imagine her surprise when she discovered that is was all a big trick!

After the trick, Wendy brought a bunch of smooth rocks for each amigue. CAMILLE noticed her rock was cold. TOLI found a little crack in his rock, LEO said his rock was cozy,  as he held it close to his cheek, remembering that cozy was our BIG word before the break. ZOYA searched for the biggest rock, while JACK picked one that was flat like a pancake. Together we discovered that a little water can make a grey pebble shiny. After exploring similarities and differences between the rocks, we sat down to read Lubna And Pebble by Wendy Meddour. (The author has the very same name as our own Wendy.) After the book we scanned the room. Amigues noticed there was a tent, just like the one in the books World of Tents.

LEVI and TOLI immediately gravitated to the kiddie pool and began filling it with the fuzziest and coziest of blankets to make a nest.  Then the two nestled into the tub side by side as they continued their nap. Toli explained, “Estamos esperando un huevo.” We handed them one of the smaller rock shaped pillows, which they wrapped and wrapped, “para que este calentito.”

As the bells rang, telling us it was time for the “What Just happened” portion of Lab, SUNNY noticed, “Eva, I wasn’t even scared.” In the past, she cried or asked for the bells to be turned off.

Today’s Poem: When I paint a rock it gets bigger

Look how gentle I am with my rock.

My mama was doing yoga in a tent and a snake fell from the tent

Quieres tocar la piedra?

It’s cooooooollllllld

We have to get some water and if we leave it, it will be shiny so shiny.

I see a tent.

I see cozy rocks.

I see a bathtub.

I’m too tired to paint a rock

When I paint a rock it gets bigger

Quieres una palabra?

Sunny tiene WATER

I want to wrap my rock.

It’s done -it’s a present.

I was making beads.

I have a question. Maribel is in my classroom.

She’s with the friends in my classroom.

This rock is telling me about two spiders.
