WHAT DO YOU CELEBRATE?

Guiding ideas:
If we could name our own special day, what would we celebrate? / Si pudieras inventar tu propio día festivo, ¿qué celebrarías tú?
Inspired by the string wrapping art of the artist Judith Scott. and the book “I’m in charge of Celebrations” by Byrd Baylor.

Ingredients for today’s Lab:
Tools for making magic wands, each maestre prepared a box of surprises, string, random objects, letters, rainbows, postcards, pictures of Judith Scott and her work

What just happened?!:
Today El Lab was filled with celebration, color, and imagination. We wondered together: What would it look like if we could name our own holiday? What would we celebrate if the world said “Hoy es tu día”?

The amigues took the question seriously, and playfully.

CLAUDIA: “I made a wand and it is perfect. I celebrate Happy Mommy and Daddy Day!
REY: “I celebrate The Fishing Pole Holiday. It’s not magic, it’s a fishing pole. You throw, cast, and roll it back, and then you get fish.”

From there, celebrations multiplied like confetti in the air: Happy Elephant Day, Happy Stickers on Body Day, Happy Baby Squirrels Day, Happy Jirafa Day, Happy Firetruck Day, Happy Kids Day, Happy Snowman Day, Happy Hearts Day, and finally, for the grand finale: Happy Dancing Leaves Day!

With magic wands waving and one fishing pole casting, we stepped outside and watched as the wind joined our celebration — making the leaves twirl and shimmer in the air. The amigues squealed, certain that their wands had real power.

Just before we ended, LEO shouted one last joyful reminder:

“Don’t forget Happy Poop Day!” 💩✨

We all laughed, because in El Lab, even Happy Poop Day deserves to be celebrated.
