Bimulous Sky and Rainbow Hearts- how do you celebrate your sky.

🐜 Guiding Ideas 🐜
Autonomy and agency. Containing, inviting and being invited. More gifts for the community. The sky.

Ingredients for today’s lab

Today Wendy shared her favorite book ever, When the Sky is Like Lace by Elinor Lander Horwitz. Illustrated by Barbara Cooney. Written on the year the witch and the curator were born, it is now out of print, but you can still find some copies out there of this dream-like book.

"On a night on which anything, you think, can and indeed will happen, three girls venture out to listen to otters sing, eat spaghetti with pineapple sauce, and watch trees dance…”

In it Elinor speaks of the Bimulous Sky. “What is a Bimulous Sky?” you ask…

In Tijeras: With every ant-inspired mural laid out throughout the classrooms so that amigues could help connect them with art materials and natural loose parts. Clay on the table to continue to build the ant hills. Magnolia Pods for painting with Wendy and a damp ginormous log from the tree bed outside with a real life slug and mud.

In Papel: Every loft, tunnel, tent, and bench arranged like an ant colony for gross motor ant play. The two sensory tables were filled with buttons, other small objects, and cup to help transport them.

In Piedra: The Brainstorming snack-time was lead by Camila and Claudia.

Outside: BRAINSTORM FOOD & NEWS HOTEL was open for gift giving.

What just happened?

A Claudia edited video at then end of this blogpost tells the story in a nutshell:‍ ‍Claudia’s beautiful sky from a picnic blanket, Livneh’s sky party, Magnolia Pods Blast Off con Sebatian, Sunny’s sky, juegos artificiales con Camille. Matias’ anthill.

Max, Luca, y Willem exploran los tuneles como hormigas con Naidely. Levi takes ants out of last week’s ant hill to build this week’s. . Ceci gathers y baila, meanwhile Camille balances. Theo paints Magnolia Pods.

Sunny: maybe when my mommy see the sky she sees a heart!
The sky is plum purple….
Toly: es mi color favorito!
Jude: the trees dance? (After hearing the book say this)
Wendy: let’s away and dance like trees
Jude: That’s wind!
Nay: Cuándo estoy en el cielo veo las nubes (mostrando foto)

With Eva we built teeny tiny picnics for the ants to exlpore. With Nicole the anthills became ant castles, with towers and look outs and princess ants with baby eggs.

It is remarkable that a school without walls, where amigues are trusted with the freedom to wander, discover, and follow their curiosity, can feel at once so safe, so joyfully alive with sound and movement, and so deeply grounded in meaningful learning.

Camille: Queeeee!?
Levneh : maybe when the sky is beautiful there’s a star party
Lola: I have a mom and kitty cat. My kitty cat does not like the sky.
Sunny: it’s a rainbow heart! Look at the sky, grab it, and take it home.
Isabel: Sebastian what do you see in the sky?
Sebastian: I see a rocket! In the house!
Leo: I built some clay in the side of the bridge and instead of falling they can stick
Livneh: when I went outside I saw…I don’t know
